If you are new to Desktop Lock, let us begin by testing its fundamental lock and unlock features.
There are various ways to lock the system with Desktop Lock:
There is no default lock hotkey after installation. You can specify one in the Lock Settings. It's a system global hotkey, so once set, you can use it to lock the system from anywhere, without the need to run the main program.
The software can be configured in Advanced Settings to lock the system at startup; or when the system remains idle for a certain period. You can also use the Schedule Settings to lock the system at designated times, and optionally unlock the system at other times.
But for now, let's click the button in the main window to try the locking function. If you haven't changed any settings, the system will lock while preserving the current screen content and displaying a banner that indicates the locking status. The keyboard and mouse will be disabled, and the screen will be frozen.
In a default configuration that no settings have been changed, simply pressing the default unlock hotkey will unlock the system instantly.
That's all, for now.
But you will want to set your own unlock hotkey so that none but you can unlock the locked system, and explore other settings to configure auto-locking and system behavior while locked.
